Items For Building Construction

BASICS: CEMENT, STEEL AND CONCRETE

First things first

Concrete is the end product which is used in the construction of any types of foundations, roads, sidewalks, homes and the infrastructure around it. Concrete is a mixture of gravel, sand, cement, and water. The process called hydration in which the cement and water harden and bind the sand and gravel or crushed stone into a rock like mass refer as Concrete

Cement is the component in Concrete. Cement is used as a binder to join other materials.

Steel is a sturdy substance. Steel structure is metal structures which resist the damage caused by natural disasters like hurricanes, tornadoes and earthquakes. Components connected to each other in this structure to carry loads and provide rigidity.

CEMENT:

Cement is a substance acting as glue for construction. Cement is a fine powder made from crushed minerals, such as limestone and clay, which act as binders. It sets, hardens and adheres to other materials to bind them together by the process called hydration. Cement is hardly used on its own, but rather to bind sand and gravel (aggregate) together.

STEEL:

The secret to the sustainability of a steel building system is the strength of the Steel. Best Steel boasts the highest strength-to-weight ratio of any construction. Steel is 8 times stronger than concrete structure. Steel has better resistance to tensile, compressive, and flexural stress. Components connected to each other in this structure to carry loads and provide rigidity.

Therefore, top TMT steel bars create a stronger building with far less material than concrete. Less material means less material costs. In addition, with the innovations in steel production it has become extremely cost-efficient building material. We need to choose top TMT bar for sturdy constructions. Structural steel for domestic use contains 77% to 90% recycled steel which reduces the price of the Steel.

WHY STEEL?

  • Steel can retain all its strength no matter how many times it is recycled. Steel rebar used in reinforced concrete buildings is 100% recyclable
  • The magnetic property of steel scrap makes it simple to handle and recycle.
  • Now-a-days Americans recycle nearly 100% of all structural steel.
  • Recycling steel actually costs less than producing pure steel.
  • Every ton of steel recycled saves 1,400 pounds of coal, 120 pounds of limestone, 2,500 pounds of iron ore and 10.9 million British thermal units (Btu’s) of energy!
  • Steel buildings hold their value for decade after decade with virtually low maintenance.

CONCRETE:

In construction, Concrete is a structural material consisting of a hard and particulate substance (chemically inactive, mostly gravels and sand) known as aggregate, which is bonded together by cement and water. General guide for a standard concrete mix consists of 1 part of cement, 2 parts of sand and 4 parts of aggregates (gravel, crushed stone, crushed hydraulic-cement concrete, or iron blast-furnace slag). For foundation, 1 part cement, 3 parts sand and 6 parts aggregates can be used. The quality of the paste or aggregate determines the character of the concrete.

Concrete ingredients are inexpensive and readily available. Usually the price of concrete remains relatively stable. But concrete buildings do require constant maintenance and repair due to temperature swings

STEEL STRUCTURE AND CONCRETE STRUCTURE:

When we determine building materials, some factors need to answer, so that we can make the right choice.

Construction for concrete is simple and can be molded in any shape. Roads and concrete walls are primarily made up of concrete.  These structures can support comprehensive loads and carry well in environmental pressure. Although concrete has excellent compressive strength but its brittle nature cause it to fracture under tension.

Concrete Structures has its own benefits. These structures are well resistant to fire, wind, pest damages and resistant to corrosion. The materials needed for the concrete structure is easily available and affordable.

While Steel is mostly used in Commercial and industrial buildings due to its flexibility that can easily be fabricated into any application. Steel often be used as aesthetic of a design.

Since the recycle factor is there, Top TMT steel bars are available at affordable costs by leading manufacturer of the Steel. It makes the structure more durable with high tensile strength.

Now-a-days concrete reinforced with steel bars is the most common method, used for both buildings and structures such as water tanks too. For construction several factors need to be considered. We need to understand which material suits our project better. We need to decide whether reinforced concrete or steel, which one works best for our specific project. We need to compare strength, durability, sustainability, fire resistance and of course the COST. Short term and long term cost needs to be compared. Alternatively we might consider regarding hybrid building that employs both steel and concrete.
